I chose creating a felting business because it is something that I have always wanted to do for myself. I have done felting for the past 4 years and love doing it. I have a bunch of supplies for it and different colored wool to make keychains or figurines. I would always make birthday presents for my parents and family through felting.
I want to successfully come up with some characters or items I can create and post on Etsy. I think the ones I have made are pretty high quality and hopefully I would be able to sell them. I would come up with different types of items I could make like for halloween season maybe decorative pumpkins. I want to learn how to make skeletal models to create realistic animals that can stand. They sell these special wires to make the frame of the animal and then you felt around it to create a life -like creature. There are also these glass eyes that I would love to try experimenting with because it would make the animals so much cuter.
My inquiry aligns with the inspired innovator competency. I would be able to show my creative side and come up with ideas for projects to make. I would also be able to work around failure if something doesn’t work and persevere. I would also be able to refine and analyze my ideas when creating the shop and coming up with ideas. Working on the online store would be a good opportunity to show this competency as well as making the product itself.
To achieve my inquiry goals I would plan out to make 1-2 figurines a week (quality over quantity). It takes me roughly 4-5 hours to complete one figurine so I would be able to make that amount in a week. I would post a new figurine on my shop once a week and make that my goal, and if anyone orders one of them I would also be using that time to make an ordered figurine. My goal would be to sell at least 3 products or more and see how well it would go.
For my website I would show what new felting skills I learned for my project and what ideas I came up with for products throughout the months. I would also have a page dedicated to showing how much I was able to sell in that time. I would have a blog section for my website to show and update on what I did each week. I would clip pictures of what I made and screenshots of my website and how things were going there. I would also update you on the pricing and what worked and didn't work for my shop.
