I chose computer programming because this is something I have always wanted to explore as a potential career path. My dad is a computer programmer and we worked on computer programming from a book once a week over the summer. I wanted to continue this but on my own time because it’s something that interests me. The different types of programs that I am able to make using the most basic programming functions on java is what interests me.
From pursuing this inquiry I would like to be able to make programs from my own head. So far I have been following a book that I bought to teach java programs for beginners but doing it on my own would be the ultimate goal. That would require memorizing all the functions and being able to put them to action. The book details provide programs that can be written in increasing difficulty as well as concepts to learn along the way.
My inquiry aligns with the solution seeker portrait of a learner competency. In computer programming you have to find sequences and combinations, which is part of the portrait of a learner competency. I will portray this throughout my work by creating programs to show my comprehension. I will seek the book explaining java as a source of help. When there are mistakes in the program I will seek them out and fix them.
I will need to research programs or lessons for programming. I will have to decide which type of programming I want to work with too (java). As part of my research I will use guides and book manuals to learn from. I will also research some type of interactive exercises to do online. I might also ask my dad for help explaining some concepts because he is a programmer himself. He can be my resource and help me through the tricky parts.
I would work on 1-2 chapters from the programming book that I have every week and show the progress by screenshotting and explaining the programs I created. This would mean I should be able to finish 4-8 chapters in a month which includes over 10 programs. The final project would be a program that I would create on my own with the knowledge I gained. This would accomplish my ultimate goal. I would post weekly blogs about my progress on my website as well.
